Chinese tire manufacturer Sailun Group unveiled plans to invest USD251 million in constructing a new manufacturing plant in Indonesia, marking its latest move in expanding operations overseas. This announcement comes as the company's third international investment project since December of the previous year. The new facility, situated in the Jatengland Industrial Park in Demak, Central Java, Indonesia, is slated to manufacture 3.6 million radial tires annually, along with 37,000 tons of non-road tires. Sailun Group's shares, traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SHA: 601058, saw a marginal increase of 0.07%, closing at CNY14.32 (USD2.00) today.

The UK government's stance on crumb rubber in sports pitches has come under scrutiny following the European Commission's ban on microplastics, which encompasses crumb rubber. Initially, the UK government stated no plans to ban crumb rubber but has since initiated consultations on intentionally added microplastics. Professor Andrew Watterson from the University of Stirling has called for a ban on toxic 3G crumb rubber pitches in Scotland due to identified health hazards.

Indian tire recyclers are stepping up efforts to meet the increasing demand for tire shred in the domestic market by expanding existing capacities and establishing new plants. This expansion includes setting up tire recycling units overseas to collect tires, process them into shreds, and then ship them back to India for further processing. India stands as the world's largest importer of scrap tires, with significant volumes being imported from Australia. Tyre Collection Australia, founded by Chetan Joshi in Melbourne in 2018, is one such player engaged in tire recycling.
