Designed to save lives: The "Rubberized Structure House" - Innovation in the application of recycled rubber material

Based on these qualities is also the invention of the Croatian constructor and professor Stipan Orcic – the Rubberized Structure House. Primal reason for his invention are the frequent floods and earthquakes around the world with catastrophic consequences and many human casualties. The Rubberized Structure Houses are designed to reduce casualties in these areas.

A Rubberized Structure House constitutes a novelty in the civil engineering. By rubberizing the metal structure, rubber having negative building characteristics, obtains elements making it equal with other building materials. In extreme weather conditions, or earthquakes, it makes it superior to other building materials.

The rubberized construction increases resistance to destruction as result of earthquake. During floods the rubberized walls make it impossible for mater to penetrate to the interior. The raw material needed for the metal structure rubberizing is a mixture of recycled car tyres and other waste.

The invention relates to the field of housing construction. The rubber structured housing construction would be standardized and with serially produced elements. The Rubber Structured House is designed to solve the problems of houses arising from earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes. Owing to its flexibility, the building of such a structure would resist destructive effects of intensive earthquakes and storms.

Impermeability, waterproof quality, and possibility of hermetic closing of a building will provide high security to people in the case of floods or storms.

In general, the building materials are solid or they solidify after being mixed with water obtaining thereby solidity, hardness and other characteristics necessary for obtaining bearing capacity and compactness of a building. A building material has to be airy, i. e. the walls must breathe.

This is the reason why rubber hasn’t been used so far as a building material. But by building the rubber-structured objects, the outer and inner lining of which would be separated by air ducts, rubber would come in use as a building material. Rubber, as a flexible material would have priority over other solid and non-flexible materials, and its superiority would be shown in extreme circumstances, e. g. earthquakes, floods and storms.

The building elements are of the kind that stronger vibrations don’t cause destruction of or falling off of pieces of material that could cause the death of the dwellers.
In the event of flood, the rubber structure is waterproof, and doors and windows prevent water from entering in the building, by their hermetic closure. Where the water level is increased up to the roof of the building, the dwellers are provided with air through air ducts giving them the possibility to survive.
