The authorities of Detroit will prohibit launching scrap tire storages and other types of businesses that sell used tires and used vehiles starting from 1 April 2019 for one year. This comes after signing of an executive order by the state’s mayor Mike Duggan.

In 2019, Detroit authorities also aim to review and update the current ordinances, which would help to start and expand scrap yards. The step is expected to diminish the rate of illegal scrap operations in the city.

The local authorities highlighted that the move was taken as more and more waste tire recycling facilities, tire storages, old car sales points and auto repairs are currently being launched in Detroit. And, according to the executive order, this expansion poses a problem as the businesses don’t comply with zoning and licensing standards. Moreover, some of the facilities are involved in illegal activities.

Additionally, the document asserted that several businesses failed to get a permit and some of them harm the residential districts in the neighborhood with excessive noise, traffic, crime, as well as they threaten the environment.

The order also emphasized that businesses that already have license and obligatory certificates of compliance can renew them.
