According to the head of Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) Mohd Akbar Md, the aim of the plan is to diversify the use of rubber in the country, making room for construction applications and reducing stocks. The country has already rubberized a 1km patch of road at the Kota Tinggi Research Station in Johor. The move is part of a recent decision by major rubber producers to increase the domestic use of their natural rubber in order to drive more demand.

According to the MRB chief,“the three countries have looked into the possibility of using 300,000 tonnes of natural rubber for the next 5-10 years.”
