In 2015, Re-Match built its 86,000 square feet facility and it entered into full-fledged three-shift production in spring.

Reportedly, the artificial turn recycling facility is able to process about 800 tons of rolled turf per week, which is almost 4 football pitches. The process of Re-Match is patented worldwide and it takes a rolled-up turf for shredding, cutting, drying and sieving and then delivers 4 products into big bags, i.e.: sand, crumb rubber infill, backing fractions and plastic. The purity of the end products was verified by different institutions and, reportedly, the sand is 99.6% pure, whereas rubber infill – 99.95%.

To reuse these products in the artificial turf industry, such a high level of purity is not required, however, these products become profoundly attractive in other industries where they are used as substitutes to virgin materials. During the recycling process of Re-Match, 100% of the rolled pitch is processed. 90% of the material is represented by the infill, sand and rubber granulate. Some 9% of the total volume are the actual turf fibers and backing material, which are recycled as well. Only 1 percent of the turf becomes general waste in the form of dust and is separated during the process.

End of Life certificates are issued to the owners of the pitch once the last roll of turf in the pitch has been processed. This certificate confirms that what was shipped has actually been received and processed. Re-Match aims at receiving ETV certification, which is to prove a unique and unprecedented level of the technology.

It is some 20% cheaper to recycle turf pitches than to bury them at a landfill. Considering environmental point of view, it is very costly to dispose of the precious material simultaneously harming environment. Incineration of waste turf is neither a good solution and recycling also saves a considerable amount of CO2, which thus doesn’t go to the atmosphere.
