The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), Alabama State Parks, and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) were awarded the Leadership in Conservation and Sustainability Award on Sept. 12, 2024, by the Rubberized Asphalt Foundation. The award recognizes their efforts to use recycled tires in paving projects at three state parks—Lake Guntersville, DeSoto, and Joe Wheeler—repurposing over 19,000 end-of-life tires.

Evonik wants to help make rubber materials from scrap tires easier to re-use in the manufacture of new automobile tires. So far, the suitability of recycled rubber has been very limited because its chemical structure hampers interaction with new tire materials. Group CNJ, headquartered in Ahmedabad, India, is investing $3.5 million in a new tire recycling facility in Melbourne, Australia, as part of its global expansion strategy. The new site will be equipped with Fornnax Technology’s advanced shredding equipment, including the SR 150 primary shredder and R4000 secondary shredder, enabling the facility to process 10 tonnes of tires per hour, with an annual capacity of 55,000 tonnes. On September 5, Vow ASA announced that its subsidiary Scanship AS has signed a FEED (Front End Engineering Design) contract with Murfitts Industries, a leading end-of-life tire recycling company. This contract represents the latest milestone in a collaborative program between the two companies focused on developing a process to recover and reuse raw materials from end-of-life tires on a commercial scale. Marubeni Corporation, one of Japan’s largest trading companies, has announced its investment in Green Rubber Energy Company Limited (GRE), a company specializing in End-of-Life Tire (ELT) pyrolysis recycling in Thailand. This strategic investment aims to establish a sustainable tire recycling supply chain and mitigate the environmental impact associated with tire disposal.

The Australian federal and Western Australian Labor governments are co-investing AUD $44.1 million in nine recycling projects to enhance waste management across Perth and regional Western Australia. These projects will divert 143,000 tonnes of waste from landfills annually and create 246 jobs. Facilities will recycle plastics, tires, paper, and cardboard into new products, including high-quality plastic pipes.
