News: Tire Recycling & Pyrolysis

Lummus Technology, a global provider of process technologies and value-driven energy solutions, and InnoVent Renewables announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work toward licensing and deploying InnoVent’s continuous tire pyrolysis technology globally. “This is another significant step in expanding and strengthening our portfolio for the circular economy,” said Leon de Bruyn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lummus Technology.

Continental is integrating even more renewable and recycled materials into its tire production. While their share averaged 26 percent in 2024, the tire manufacturer expects this figure to increase by two to three percentage points in 2025. This increase is due to the use of synthetic rubber obtained from renewable or circular oil, polyester made from recycled PET, recycled steel, and innovative fillers such as silica from rice husk ash. In addition to introducing various sustainable materials, changes in the product mix may influence this key figure's development.

The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) announced its new Board of Directors following its Annual General Meeting of members held on June 4, 2025. At that meeting, the members elected Phillip Diogenes of Bridgestone Canada Inc. as a new director. The Officers of TRAC include Chris Figel of AirBoss of America Corp. as Chair of the Board; Lawrence Kumar of Yokohama Tire (Canada) as Vice Chair; and Paul Christou of Goodyear Canada Inc. as Treasurer.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) CEO Fredrik Emilson and CFO Fredrik Aaben have subscribed for a total of 3,980,769 shares, valued at just over SEK 3.3 million, as part of the company’s recently completed rights issue. The rights issue raised approximately SEK 240 million, significantly boosting Enviro’s cash position.

On Monday, June 2nd, the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) released the comprehensive dossier of evidence they submitted to the Environment Agency’s inquiry into Waste Tyres. The dossier summarises the years of persistent engagement with government and regulators, highlights the urgent need for reform in the management and export of end-of-life tyres (ELTs).

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) founder Bengt Sture Ershag received the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Recircle Awards. Ershag received the award for his lifelong efforts to create a more sustainable handling of end-of-life tires. In addition to being the founder of Enviro, Bengt Sture Ershag is also the inventor and developer of the fundamentals of Enviro's leading pyrolysis technology.
