In Episode 67 the Tyre Recycling Podcast spoke with one of the founders, Enrico Koggel of the Circular Rubber Platform, the online knowledge and networking platform on rubber circularity. The Circular Rubber Platform is making a circular rubber economy easy and accessible, by knowledge sharing, networking and fostering collaboration within the whole rubber industry. It presents solutions for rubber circularity (renewable and recovered raw materials and technologies) online and during meet-ups, and actively connects engineers, companies and universities.

SSI Shredding Systems has supplied equipment to a cement producer in Senegal to shred end-of-life tires, transforming them into tire-derived fuel (TDF) for use in cement kilns. The U.S.-made system, which includes an M120 two-shaft shredder and a trommel screen, provides a cost-effective and space-efficient solution. The trommel screen ensures clean, sheared tire pieces suitable for incineration, helping reduce reliance on coal while lowering costs and carbon emissions.

Brehmer Mfg., Inc., a manufacturer specializing in fertilizer, hog, and tire recycling equipment, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an Open House event on Friday, October 4, 2024. The public is invited to tour the plant, visit with workers, and learn about the company and its products. Since its founding in 1974, Brehmer Mfg. has grown from four employees in a 1,500-square- foot, former olive factory to almost 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 45 full- time employees, building a variety of agricultural and tire-recycling equipment.

Teknor Apex has introduced the Monprene® R6 CP-10100 series, a new range of Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs) containing 60% post-consumer recycled content. This innovation supports the circular economy by reducing reliance on fossil-based materials and significantly lowering the carbon footprint of various consumer products, including sporting goods, electronics, and personal care items.

Ecopneus reaffirms its commitment to the extra target collection in 2024, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and strict management of financial resources. The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security has set an additional target for the collection of End-of-Life Tyres (ELTs) in 2024, urging the national ELT management system to increase the annual target by up to 10% (from 95% to 105% of the market input).

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), Alabama State Parks, and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) were awarded the Leadership in Conservation and Sustainability Award on Sept. 12, 2024, by the Rubberized Asphalt Foundation. The award recognizes their efforts to use recycled tires in paving projects at three state parks—Lake Guntersville, DeSoto, and Joe Wheeler—repurposing over 19,000 end-of-life tires.

BASF Coatings has launched its first ChemCycling® products in the automotive refinish market, becoming the first repair coating supplier to benefit from BASF's advanced ChemCycling technology under the biomass balance approach. The new clear coats, made from recycled raw materials, are part of the Glasurit® Eco Balance and R-M® eSense product lines.

Evonik wants to help make rubber materials from scrap tires easier to re-use in the manufacture of new automobile tires. So far, the suitability of recycled rubber has been very limited because its chemical structure hampers interaction with new tire materials. A team of researchers at Evonik has now made a key step forward with a process that could make it possible to use up to four times as much recycled rubber in new tires as in the past.
