CalRecycle is leading a transformative shift in California's Waste and Used Tire Program with the implementation of a new Electronic Mobile Manifesting System, developed in partnership with Diversys Software Inc. This transition from paper-based methods to digital e-manifests will streamline the tracking and management of over 50 million waste tires handled annually across the state.

Group CNJ, headquartered in Ahmedabad, India, is investing $3.5 million in a new tire recycling facility in Melbourne, Australia, as part of its global expansion strategy. The new site will be equipped with Fornnax Technology’s advanced shredding equipment, including the SR 150 primary shredder and R4000 secondary shredder, enabling the facility to process 10 tonnes of tires per hour, with an annual capacity of 55,000 tonnes. The plant is expected to be operational by March 2025 and will produce high-quality steel-free rubber chips.

On September 5, Vow ASA announced that its subsidiary Scanship AS has signed a FEED (Front End Engineering Design) contract with Murfitts Industries, a leading end-of-life tire recycling company. This contract represents the latest milestone in a collaborative program between the two companies focused on developing a process to recover and reuse raw materials from end-of-life tires on a commercial scale. One of the primary goals of this initiative is to allow manufacturers to incorporate recovered materials into new tire production, thereby closing the loop in the tire lifecycle.

Marubeni Corporation, one of Japan’s largest trading companies, has announced its investment in Green Rubber Energy Company Limited (GRE), a company specializing in End-of-Life Tire (ELT) pyrolysis recycling in Thailand. This strategic investment aims to establish a sustainable tire recycling supply chain and mitigate the environmental impact associated with tire disposal.

The Australian federal and Western Australian Labor governments are co-investing AUD $44.1 million in nine recycling projects to enhance waste management across Perth and regional Western Australia. These projects will divert 143,000 tonnes of waste from landfills annually and create 246 jobs. Facilities will recycle plastics, tires, paper, and cardboard into new products, including high-quality plastic pipes. Key projects include a tire recycling and devulcanization plant to process 12,000 tonnes of off-the-road tires into reusable rubber materials.

Bridgestone, a global leader in premium tires and sustainable mobility solutions, is introducing the Potenza Sport A, the company’s first mass-produced tire to incorporate 55% ISCC PLUS certified recycled and renewable materials. ISCC PLUS is a globally applicable certification standard which aims to increase the transparency and traceability of alternative feedstocks throughout the entire supply chain, from the point of origin to the final customer.

Nokian Tyres has signed a development agreement with a Swedish biomaterial science company Reselo AB to further develop their renewable material Reselo Rubber as a potential new raw material in tires. Reselo Rubber is a completely renewable material made from birch bark sourced from the residue of the global pulp, paper and plywood industry. The aim of the cooperation agreement now signed is to develop the material further to adapt it for commercial tire production.

Bridgestone EMEA (Bridgestone), Grupo BB&G (BB&G) and Versalis (Eni) announced the signing of an agreement aimed at establishing a closed-loop ecosystem to transform end-of-life tyres into new tyres. The agreement will bring together the innovation, experience and technological skills of all three companies. The partnership aims to develop a model for the creation of a scalable and increasingly sustainable supply chain. Around one billion tyres reach the end of their useful service life every year, according to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)’s Tire Industry Project1. Bridgestone, BB&G and Versalis are seeking a solution that provides innovative and more environmentally responsible ways to address increased sustainability in the synthetic rubber business, helping to maximise the complete lifecycle of a tyre.
