End-of-life tire exports are a challenge for the entire European recycling sector, undermining domestic efforts. German tire alliance, Allianz Zukunft Reifen (AZuR), has drafted a resolution for the EU to call for more control over these exports and promote internal recycling.

The resolution will be signed on June 4, 2024, at THE TIRE COLOGNE. Urgent regulations at the European level are needed to ensure sustainable handling of end-of-life tires in line with a circular economy.

AZuR urges companies, associations, and NGOs to support this resolution and advocate for a superior tire recycling cycle.

Tires are indispensable for mobility, but around 3.5 million tons of old tires are generated in Europe annually. AZuR aims to keep these materials in the recycling loop as long as possible, requiring urgent action from companies and organizations.

Over 70 European organizations already support tire recycling with AZuR, but more support is needed. The resolution demands that all tires used in the EU be reused or recycled there and that new tires be manufactured sustainably.

The recyclable materials pyramid should guide economic activity. "Mobility affects us all, and we are all responsible for the end-of-life tires generated daily. We call on companies and organizations to support our resolution," says AZuR network coordinator Christina Guth.

Participation in the resolution is available online or live at the signing ceremony on June 4, 2024, at THE TIRE COLOGNE 2024 trade fair.
