In Episode 80 of The Tyre Recycling Podcast, BAFTA-winning BBC journalist Paul Kenyon joins live from the Round Trip Tyre and Conveyor Belt Recycling Summit in Melbourne. Kenyon, whose File on 4 documentary “The Tyre Scandal” uncovered the illegal export of UK end-of-life tyres to India, reflects on his investigation and insights from the summit.
He describes his “epiphany moment” — discovering that India lacked the legal pyrolysis capacity to handle the massive influx of UK tyre waste — and highlights the UK’s T8 exemption system as a key loophole enabling weak oversight. Kenyon also notes that Australia is “far more advanced” in addressing tyre waste challenges, while criticising the UK government’s “utterly dismissive” response to the issue.
Tune in to Episode 80 for an in-depth discussion on the investigation that placed the UK tyre recycling sector under global scrutiny on Tyre & Rubber Recycling's YouTube:
