Rubberized asphalt is one of the most significant applications for recycled tyre rubber. In the United States this type of use dates back to the 1950s where today it represents a consolidated market.

In Brazil the main highway is using asphalt binders modified by tyre rubber powder, and currently Cbb Asfaltos, a Brazilian company, who received a Green Patent for the process from the Brazilian Government, has the best technology in Latin America for this process.

Rubber powder used in hot mix bitumen changes the rheological behavior of the bitumen and induces a variation in viscosity and elasticity improving the functional performance of asphalt mix, with a wide spectrum of benefits according to mix design which include, higher resistance, longer duration, etc.

Luiz Henrique Teixeira is a Civil Engineer, Head Coach at Cbb Asfaltos (manufacturer of asphalt binders), Member of the Technical Committee of ABEDA (Brazilian Association of Asphalt Distributors), Member of the Asphalt Commission of the IBP (Brazilian Petroleum Institute).

During the 29th ETRA Conference on Tyre Recycling in Brussels accross 17-19 April 2024, he will present the rheological behavior of the bituminous binder implemented on the main Brazilian highways with high traffic, and excellent operational results.
