Bridgestone received the Supplier Award in the sustainability category from Airbus, an aerospace company. At the Global Supplier Conference on October 16 and 17, 2023 in Toulouse, France, the premium tire manufacturer was honored with the coveted supplier award for its special achievements for a more sustainable society.

As part of its mission of “Serving Society with Superior Quality”, Bridgestone pursues the vision of creating social and customer-oriented added value as a sustainable solutions company by 2050. The tire manufacturer follows the values of the Bridgestone E8 Commitmet. The aviation business plays an essential role in realizing Bridgestone's sustainable business model, thereby contributing to climate neutrality and the realization of a more sustainable circular economy.

In order to make the business model “nature positive” along the entire value chain, the company strives to produce, sell, use and innovate in line with its vision:

1. Reduction of CO 2 emissions

Bridgestone is promoting the adoption of renewable energy based on wind and solar energy to reduce CO 2 emissions from its manufacturing processes. In addition, the weight-saving design of aircraft tires enables a reduction in CO 2 and lower fuel consumption. In addition, Bridgestone continues to expand its global supply chain management to reduce lead time for customer orders in the supply chain while helping to reduce CO 2 emissions from transportation.

2. Value of natural resources

Aviation includes both the new tire and retreading business. Bridgestone continuously works to optimize its resource productivity through the maximum use of natural rubber and the use of retreaded tires. This enables the company to use around 80 percent of recycled and renewable materials and contributes to the realization of a circular economy in society.

3. Joint initiatives to minimize environmental impacts

Bridgestone and Airbus support their sustainability vision and have been taking concrete initiatives together since 2021: The premium tire manufacturer has taken significant steps to support Airbus' efforts to reduce environmental impact across the life cycle of aircraft. Bridgestone is actively committed to illustrating its environmental impact and demonstrating how it can meet its responsibility for this issue throughout the aircraft tire supply chain.

“We are honored to receive this award from Airbus in the sustainability category as a tire supplier,” said Nobuyuki Tamura, vice president and senior officer of global tire solutions for mining, industrial, construction and aviation. “Thanks to the insights we have gained from Airbus's life cycle assessment, we can further advance our initiatives. In this way, we improve both customer benefits along the value chain and social value in collaboration with various partners, including Airbus.”
