Continental has signed a ten-year agreement with Pyrum Innovations AG to source high-quality recovered carbon black (rCB) from end-of-life tires. This collaboration, building on a 2022 development agreement, aims to integrate rCB into the series production of passenger car tires, advancing Continental's goal of using over 40% renewable and recycled materials in its tires by 2030.

Recycled carbon black, crucial for tire stability and durability, helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower CO2 emissions. Continental is committed to a closed-loop recycling system, where end-of-life tires become raw materials for new products, aligning with its long-term sustainability strategy to achieve 100% sustainable materials in tires by 2050.

Continental's innovative approach includes the use of recycled rubber, steel, and polyester in its tires, highlighting its commitment to sustainability. The ongoing partnership with Pyrum Innovations is a key step in developing efficient processes that maximize the recycling of tire components without compromising safety or quality. Through these efforts, Continental is setting a new standard for the increased use of recycled materials in tire production.
