Continental Tyre Malaysia hosted Energy & Environment Day
Like other major tire manufacturers, Continental Tire Malaysia is committed to environmental and social responsibility. To highlight and celebrate its accomplishments toward this goal, Contitental hosted an Energy & Environment Day.
The event, with the theme "Energizing a Green Future", gave staff members a better grasp of how they could contribute to the company's wider sustainability initiatives. Participants were made aware of how important it is for everyone to work together to support and embrace the changing environment.
Recycling programs for plastic and rainwater are just a couple of the environmental initiatives Malaysia is now implementing to go closer to its goal. Instead of using water from the main supply, Continental’s plant collects rainwater to reuse it in its production. In the meantime, plastic is recycled within the plant and used again in the production of its tires, reducing the demand for new plastic sheets.
Continental’s commitment to drive sustainable and value-creating solutions along the entire value chain covers four key areas with targets to be achieved by 2050. These are:
- Material sourcing – fair and 100% sustainable material sourcing practices
- Operations - to become highly energy and resource efficient, complemented by low emissions operations with 100% carbon neutral production
- Product usage - safe, energy-efficient and long-lasting products contributing to a carbon neutral business with emission-free mobility
- End-of-life - with 100% renewing and recycling of tires
Activities on the day included two Tesla electric vehicles (EV) that were being exhibited to showcase the sustainability commitment that Continental has towards future mobility. Continental tires are suitable for most EVs as 7 out of 10 successful manufacturers of EVs worldwide rely on Continental tires as their original equipment.
Participants also learned from partners which included Gsparx, Exoticmods, Festo, Suruhanjaya Tenaga and Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) who had booths at the event about detailed information, knowledge sharing sessions related to energy saving, technology and recycling.
