Continental’s UltraContact NXT tire wins CLEPA Innovation Award for sustainability
Brussels, Belgium / Hanover, Germany, December 6, 2024 – Continental’s UltraContact NXT has been awarded the CLEPA Innovation Award in the “Green” category, recognizing it as the company’s most sustainable production tire to date. Presented by the European Association of Automotive Suppliers, the award highlights the UltraContact NXT’s industry-leading use of up to 65% renewable, recycled, and ISCC PLUS mass balance certified materials.
Combining sustainability with top-tier performance
Catherine Loss, Head of Program Management Tires EMEA at Continental, accepted the award in Brussels, stating, “With the UltraContact NXT, Continental has combined maximum sustainability with best-in-class performance. We are proud that the CLEPA Innovation Award jury has recognized this technological achievement.”
The UltraContact NXT’s composition includes:
- Up to 32% renewable materials, including natural rubber and resins derived from biological sources.
- Up to 5% recycled materials, such as reprocessed rubber and PET bottles.
- Up to 28% ISCC PLUS mass balance certified materials, sourced from biological, biological-circular, and circular raw materials.
All available dimensions of the UltraContact NXT have received the top EU tire label rating (“A”) in rolling resistance, wet braking, and exterior noise—demonstrating that sustainability does not come at the cost of performance.
