GIIB Rubber Compound Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of GIIB Holdings Berhad, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Stamford Tyres International Pte. Ltd., a major Singapore-based tyre distributor and retreader. The agreement establishes a two-year framework for collaboration on sustainable materials and circular-economy practices in the truck and bus tyre sector.

Signed on September 12, 2025, the MOU outlines GIIB’s role in supplying advanced sustainable retreading materials, including recycled rubber compounds and environmentally friendly tread liners. Stamford Tyres will integrate these materials into its retreading operations and distribution channels, supporting efforts to reduce waste and extend tyre life cycles.

According to GIIB, the partnership aims to strengthen the environmental profile of retreading by incorporating higher proportions of recycled content. GIIB’s CEO, Qisheng Tai, noted that retreading is already an inherently resource-efficient activity and highlighted the collaborative potential of using materials derived from tyre waste. He described the agreement as an opportunity to demonstrate how “green retread materials can be turned into reliable green tyres.”

The MOU also includes provisions for joint research and development activities. The companies plan to work together on new sustainable material formulations, exchange technical expertise, and evaluate performance improvements within a structured R&D framework. This collaboration is intended to support ongoing innovation in retreading materials and enhance their overall sustainability impact.

Beyond technical cooperation, GIIB and Stamford Tyres may jointly promote their partnership through trade exhibitions and public forums. These outreach efforts are intended to raise awareness of circular-economy solutions within the tyre industry and encourage broader adoption of sustainable retreading technologies.
