Hankook Tire has obtained International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification for its manufacturing facility in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, China, further expanding its global network of certified sustainable production sites.

The certification verifies the responsible use of bio-based and recycled raw materials while ensuring traceability and transparency throughout the supply chain, from material sourcing to finished tyre production.

Fourth ISCC PLUS-certified facility

The Jiaxing plant becomes Hankook Tire’s fourth facility to receive ISCC PLUS certification.

The company first achieved the certification at its Geumsan plant in South Korea in 2021, becoming one of the first tyre manufacturers to secure the accreditation. This was followed by certification of its Rácalmás facility in Hungary in 2023 and its Daejeon plant in South Korea in 2025.

With the addition of Jiaxing, Hankook has further strengthened its certified manufacturing network across both Asia and Europe.

Focus on sustainable raw materials

ISCC PLUS certification is recognised globally as a benchmark for validating the use of sustainable and recycled materials in industrial production.

The certification requires strict verification procedures covering raw material procurement, production processes, traceability systems and final product manufacturing.

At the Jiaxing facility, Hankook has increased the use of sustainable materials and implemented production processes designed to support circular economy principles.

The plant operates a mass balance management system, enabling the company to track and verify the integration of bio-based and recycled inputs throughout production.

Supporting the E.Circle circular economy strategy

The certification supports Hankook’s broader E.Circle strategy, which focuses on increasing the use of renewable and recycled materials across its product portfolio.

As part of this initiative, the company continues to raise the proportion of sustainable content in its tyres.

One example is the iON evo tyre supplied as original equipment for the Porsche Taycan, which contains approximately 45% sustainable materials. The iON GT tyre produced for the European replacement market increases that share to as much as 77%.

Sustainability extends to motorsport

Hankook is also incorporating sustainable materials into tyres used in international motorsport competitions, including the FIA World Rally Championship and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The company views motorsport as an important platform for demonstrating the performance potential of sustainable tyre technologies under demanding operating conditions.

In parallel, Hankook continues to collaborate with global partners to develop lower-carbon raw materials and advance sustainable manufacturing technologies.

Strengthening global ESG objectives

The latest certification aligns with Hankook’s broader environmental, social and governance objectives and efforts to improve sustainability across its global supply chain.

The company has received recognition for its sustainability performance through inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices World and by achieving the highest rating from EcoVadis.

Looking ahead, Hankook plans to further develop the Jiaxing facility as a major sustainable manufacturing hub in China while continuing to enhance sustainability standards and production systems throughout its worldwide manufacturing network.
