Prism Worldwide – a full-service custom compounder and material provider utilizing end-of-life tire materials founded in 2019 by Spike Anderson, William Coe and Bob Abramowitz – is revolutionizing recycling by converting end-of-life tires (EOL) and plastics into high-performance materials. By combining recycled rubber from tires with post-industrial and post-consumer recycled plastics, Prism develops sustainable alternatives that meet the specifications of virgin materials while reducing environmental impact and production costs.

Addressing global waste challenges

With 1.3 billion EOL tires generated annually worldwide—and 300 million in the U.S. alone—Prism identified an opportunity to transform two major waste streams into valuable resources. Using its patented process, the company creates Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs), Thermoplastic Vulcanizates (TPVs), and modified olefins, offering eco-conscious solutions that perform on par with virgin materials.

Scalable, energy-efficient solutions

Prism’s process operates at ambient temperatures, consuming less energy than traditional methods, and is designed for scalability. The acquisition of CRC Polymer Systems in 2022 provided a commercial-scale facility and a foundation for future growth. Prism aims to establish greenfield plants globally and form strategic partnerships with polymer manufacturers to integrate sustainable materials into mainstream production.

Future innovations and opportunities

Prism is focused on expanding into the TPV and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) markets, offering durable, recycled materials for automotive, construction, and consumer applications. With mandates in the EU requiring 25% of new automobile materials to come from post-consumer recycled sources by 2030, Prism sees significant growth potential in meeting this demand.

A mission rooted in responsibility

For Prism’s founders, the mission extends beyond business. The team is driven by a commitment to creating second and third lives for materials, reducing environmental impact for future generations. “I am not anti-plastic; I am pro-recycling,” says one of the founders, emphasizing their focus on sustainable innovation.

With plans for an upcoming fundraising round to fuel expansion, Prism is poised to lead the way in recycling technologies, bridging the gap between sustainability and economic viability in the circular economy.
