Pyrum Innovations AG has signed long-term supply and offtake agreements with Pirelli as part of the European Tyre-to-Tyre initiative, creating a circular arrangement that covers both end-of-life tire supply and the use of recycled materials in new tire production. Under the agreements, Pirelli will purchase Pyrum’s ThermoTireBlack® for use in its European tire manufacturing operations, while also supplying Pyrum with end-of-life and scrap tires from defined sources in Germany. Pyrum said the partnership strengthens its access to feedstock and secures an industrial outlet for its recovered material, confirming the commercial relevance of its thermolysis technology. The cooperation is part of a certified European value chain in which secondary raw materials from end-of-life tires and production scrap are reintroduced into new tires.

Agreement covers both feedstock and offtake

The agreements give Pyrum long-term access to end-of-life tires from Pirelli’s defined German sources and provide Pirelli with ThermoTireBlack® for European tire production. Pyrum said the arrangement covers both sides of its business model: procurement of end-of-life tires and commercialization of the secondary raw materials produced from them.

ThermoTireBlack to be used in tire production

Pyrum produces ThermoTireBlack®, also known as TTB, through its proprietary thermolysis process. The material is upgraded by Pyrum and can partially replace fossil-based carbon black in tire manufacturing. The agreement with Pirelli provides an industrial application for TTB within tire production, supporting the use of recovered carbon black and circular raw materials in the tire industry.

Thermolysis process also produces ThermoTireOil

Pyrum’s technology converts end-of-life tires into ThermoTireBlack® and ThermoTireOil®, also known as TTO. While TTB can be used as a recovered carbon black material in tire production, TTO is used as a circular feedstock in the chemical industry. Pyrum said its technology enables recycling of end-of-life tires and certain plastics, producing materials for use by partners in the chemical and tire industries.

Partnership supports European Tyre-to-Tyre initiative

Pyrum is contributing to the broader Tyre-to-Tyre initiative launched by Pirelli together with BASF and Synthos. Within the initiative, secondary raw materials derived from end-of-life tires and production scrap are returned to the manufacture of new tires through a traceable, ISCC PLUS-certified value chain.

The cooperation with Pirelli provides further industrial validation for Pyrum’s technology and products. Pyrum said the agreement demonstrates that its recycling process can be integrated into a certified European value chain involving companies from the tire, chemical and synthetic rubber industries.

Pyrum calls agreement a strategic milestone

Pascal Klein, CEO of Pyrum Innovations AG, said the long-term agreements with Pirelli represent an important commercial and strategic milestone for the company. He said the cooperation secures both the supply of end-of-life tires and an industrial outlet for TTB, while confirming that Pyrum’s technology and products meet the requirements of a major tire manufacturer.

Certified products support circular economy goals

Pyrum said its business model is designed to close material cycles by recovering valuable materials from used tires and other suitable feedstocks. The company said certifications including REACH registration for its pyrolysis oil and ISCC PLUS certification for both products support the quality and sustainability of its processes and outputs.

The agreement with Pirelli strengthens links between tire recycling, recovered carbon black, tire-derived oil and new tire manufacturing. By connecting feedstock supply with industrial offtake, the partnership supports development of scalable circular tire value chains in Europe.
