Rathi Group plans major expansion in recovered carbon black capacity
Chennai-based Rathi Group is set to significantly expand its recovered carbon black (rCB) production capacity, reaching 20,000 metric tons annually by December 2024. The company is adding a new greenfield facility with a 15,000 MT/year capacity under its Rathi Green Energy Private Limited entity, leveraging insights from its existing 5,000 MT/year plant.
The expansion aims to meet rising demand for consistent, high-volume rCB supply, particularly from tire manufacturers seeking sustainable alternatives to virgin carbon black. Marketed under the brand name “Capital Carbon,” the rCB caters to industries prioritizing eco-friendly materials to meet sustainability goals.
Meeting challenges in supply and scale “After customer approvals, the next big concern is availability of material in volumes,” said Ravi Rathi, Director of Rathi Group. The expanded facility addresses this challenge, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality rCB for large-volume users, including tire manufacturers.
This development underscores Rathi Group’s commitment to sustainability and circularity while positioning the company as a global leader in the rCB market. “By making rCB available for reuse in tires and other products, we’re helping our customers meet their sustainability targets,” added Ambesh Rathi, Director of Rathi Green Energy Private Limited.
With this expansion, Rathi Group continues to drive innovation and sustainability in the materials market, contributing to the circular economy and supporting industries in reducing their environmental impact.
