The municipality of Río Grande has advanced its environmental management program with the loading of the first truck carrying 24,000 kg of shredded end-of-life tires for treatment and recycling. The operation forms part of the city’s municipal recycling program and follows differentiated weekly collection from local tire shops. In the first stage, three trucks are expected to be shipped, reaching close to 70,000 kg of recovered tires. The initiative is intended to prevent the accumulation of waste tires, reduce environmental impact and strengthen responsible tire recycling practices through coordination between municipal departments and local collection points.

First truck loaded with 24,000 kg of shredded tires

As part of the municipal recycling program, Río Grande loaded its first truck with 24,000 kg of shredded out-of-use tires. The material will be transported for treatment and recycling, moving end-of-life tires away from uncontrolled accumulation and into a managed recovery process.

Initial stage targets nearly 70,000 kg of recovered tires

The first phase of the program includes the shipment of three trucks, with a total of nearly 70,000 kg of recovered tires expected to be managed. The municipality said the progress was made possible through joint work between municipal areas and the separated collection system carried out weekly at tire shops across the city.

Program supports cleaner urban waste management

The initiative aims to avoid the accumulation of tire waste, reduce environmental impacts and reinforce responsible waste management. By organizing collection and preparing tires for recycling, Río Grande is supporting a circular economy approach to end-of-life tire management and improving local handling of rubber waste.
