Former Bridgestone plant in French city of Béthune will collect, sort and retread passenger car tires. The agreement on this has been reached by a French retreading specialist Black-Star with the car maintenance company Mobivia with the help of Bridgestone. An integrated tire recycling ecosystem that relies on the circular economy and gives scrap tires a second life will be developed on a special industrial site with the support of iWip subsidiary. Mobivia will provide its auto centers for tire collection. From there, scrap tires will be transported and retreaded. The recycling process will help save up to 80 percent of the original material used in tire production. Each tire will be recycled into 9 kg of rubber and steel.

The Renewable Transport Fuel Association of the UK (RTFA) reports that its thirteen members and Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) of the UK have built a collaboration to promote greater uptake of pyrolysis, an advanced chemical recycling technology. To achieve this, they are funding a consultancy to contribute to the Environment Agency’s review of recovery options for end-of-life tires. Specifically, the group is seeking to demonstrate that pyrolysis is a sufficiently thorough and environmentally-safe process, and that the products should be classified as resources, not waste.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems – a Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator – informs about the large demand for recovered pyrolysis oil foreseen by the company’s feasibility study. The Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority (RPRA) – Canadian end-of-life tire management authority – has posted the final 2021 Registry fees for end-of-life tires and other recyclable materials. These are fees that producers obligated under the Tires Regulation, Batteries Regulation and Information Technology, Telecommunications and Audio-Visual (ITT/AV) portion of the EEE Regulation under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA) are required to pay to the Authority in 2021 to recover its operational costs, including costs related to building and operating the Registry, and compliance and enforcement activities.
