Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB has received notice from Infiniteria Europe Sàrl that Infiniteria intends to initiate a declaratory action against the company before the Swedish Patent and Market Court. The action concerns the exclusivity of Infiniteria’s license to Enviro’s patented pyrolysis technology for tire recycling in Europe.

ommittee D36 presented awards to John Bailey, Ludovic Moulin, Joseph Hallett, Jorge Lacayo and Pieter ter Haar. The awards recognized their work, technical expertise and participation in the standards development process for recovered carbon black, also known as rCB, and related materials such as tire pyrolysis oil.

The company said the facility is producing three ECORAX Circular grades: ECORAX Circular 200, ECORAX Circular 210 and ECORAX Circular 215. The grades are made from tire pyrolysis oil, also known as TPO, which is derived from tire recycling through pyrolysis. According to Orion, ECORAX Circular 200 is a hard carbon black grade suitable for tires. ECORAX Circular 210 and 215 can be used in tires and mechanical rubber goods.

Until now, the certification value of ELT-derived TPO has often been discussed primarily in terms of its biogenic share. This share is primarily linked to natural rubber used in tires and can be supported by 14C testing. That pathway remains relevant. But it did not fully address the larger commercial question: what about the fossil carbon in tires that is not bio-based, but is nevertheless recovered from a waste stream?

The laboratory — established within Eco Infinic's operational facility in Chon Buri, Thailand and representing an investment of 5.3 million Baht — has become the technical engine behind the company's recovered Carbon Black (rCB) product line. It is one of the few purpose-built facilities in Southeast Asia focused exclusively on rubber tire and non-tire rCB application development. Eco Infinic, a BOI-approved subsidiary of SHEICO Group (Taiwan) and a member of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) under the Environmental Management Industry Club and Rubber Industry Club, has positioned the laboratory as the centerpiece of its commitment to delivering certified, performance-proven rCB to global manufacturers.

The facility is also expected to generate approximately 21,000 tonnes annually of tire-derived oil through the company's pyrolysis process.

Today, advances in devulcanization technology are beginning to change that equation. New processes designed to selectively break sulfur cross-links while preserving the underlying polymer structure are creating opportunities to recover rubber in a form that can potentially be reused in more demanding applications.

The Hawkesbury facility was designed as a 46,200 square-foot plant with 2 reactors. Once fully ramped up, it was expected to process approximately 1.3 million to 1.5 million end-of-life tires annually and produce 4,000 metric tons of recovered carbon black, 5,000 metric tons of pyrolysis oil, 2,000 metric tons of steel and 1,200 metric tons of process gas.

The milling and pelletising plant of the expanded unit also entered regular production operations in April at a processing rate of 750 kg/hour. Pyrum said a short-term capability analysis carried out during commissioning showed 'stable process conditions and reproducible product quality' for the TTB material. Following an audit, “Continental granted full supply approval for the rCB material for use in tire manufacturing,” said Pyrum.
