On February 25-27, 2020, Martin von Wolfersdorff – recovered carbon black expert from Germany – will attend the Tire Technology Expo in Hannover. Meet Mr. Wolfersdorff during the conference to learn more about recent developments in the industry. Pyrolyx is a company specializing in recovered carbon black, tire-derived oil and steel production – these are the byproducts of scrap tire pyrolysis that are considered valuable for industrial use. For instance, recovered carbon black can be used in manufacturing of new tires and as colorant in synthetic rubber production.

At the 2020 Tyre Recycling Forum speakers will shed light on pyrolysis and rubber devulcanization industries. Tyromer’s leading experts will take part in discussions and will tell about developments of their US-based project. Organizers anticipate an ETRMA speaker to reveal the state of the EU market, and Peter Taylor will share his insights about the UK market amid Brexit concerns.

US-based Bridgestone announced recently that it has commenced producing tires containing carbon black (rCB) at its facility in Des Moines. In tire production, the company relies on carbon black supplies from its partner Delta-Energy, and uses its product, D-E Black, as the only source of the recycled material. Currently, Bridgestone has bought some 215 metric tons of Delta Energy’s rCB – this is the equivalent of over 60,000 scrap tires. By the end of next year, the company expects to apply around 6,800 of D-E Black, which would reduce over 20 million pounds of carbon emissions.

On November 13-14, 2019, Weibold’s team attended the biennial Latin American Tire Recycling Conference in Mexico’s Queretaro – a conference uniting industry’s key figures and researchers in the field of end-of-life tire recycling and pyrolysis. This event is considered one of the most important for the tire recycling sector in the region, according to the Latin American Conference official website, and is held as part of the larger XV Latin American Conference on Rubber Technology.

Tire producer Continental A.G will start applying recovered carbon black (rCB) obtained via tire pyrolysis method and produced by German Pyrolyx A.G. after two companies have reached a five-year deal. According to the contract, Pyrolyx will be supplying some 10,000 metric tons of rCB annually to Continental’s facilities in numerous countries. This will help Pyrolyx to increase its sales and grow in North America and eastern Europe as additional plants will be commissioned as part of the agreement.

Tire pyrolysis company from the Netherlands Black Bear Carbon has stated this month that it is ready to construct one more recovered carbon black plant at the Port of Rotterdam. However, Black Bear did not reveal the annual capacity of its anticipated facility. To recover carbon black, end-of-life tires will undergo thermal treatment at the facility as granulate will be decomposed from the waste materials. They will be further applied in production of carbon black and pyrolysis oil.
