Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has renewed a delivery agreement concerning pyrolysis oil from the Åsensbruk facility with a leading American oil company. The ISCC EU certified oil will be used by the oil company for the production of biofuel. The order accounts for 100% of the annual production of 750 tons of ISCC EU certified oil at Åsensbruk and the oil company has expressed a demand for substantially larger volumes.

The Re-Tyre CO₂ project, coordinated by Saras SPA Raffinerie Sarde, has secured €9.3 million from the European Innovation Fund to construct a state-of-the-art pyrolysis plant in Cagliari, Sardinia, with operations expected to begin in March 2029. The facility will process 10,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires (ELTs) annually, converting them into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), recycled carbon black, and gas used to power the plant. The project employs an optimized low-temperature pyrolysis process to improve oil yields and product quality, with the goal of producing over 2.6 million kg of kerosene annually, equivalent to fueling around 260,000 km of flights.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) and the French tire manufacturer Michelin have initiated a collaboration following successful tests, which means that Enviro will recycle valuable raw materials such as carbon black and oil from Michelin's used racing tires. The recycled carbon black can then be reused by Michelin to produce new racing and other tires. "Racing tires represent the pinnacle of tire technology, and for Enviro to be involved in providing a circular solution for the racing tires of the world's largest tire manufacturer is a mark of quality for what our technology can achieve," says Fredrik Emilson, CEO of Enviro.

Recovered carbon black (rCB) represents a transformative opportunity in the transition toward sustainable industrial materials. Derived from the pyrolysis of end-of-life tires (ELT), rCB offers a compelling alternative to virgin carbon black (vCB), significantly reducing environmental impacts while supporting circular economy principles. As industries seek to reduce their carbon footprint, enhance resource efficiency, and increase the use of recycled inputs, rCB has emerged as a commercially viable and environmentally responsible material.

Enviro's recovered carbon black has been used by Swedish rubber and plastic manufacturer AnVa to develop climarub, one of the world’s first completely climate-neutral rubber compounds. “The launch clearly demonstrates the great commercial value of recycling in achieving climate neutrality,” says Fredrik Emilson, CEO of Enviro.

Infiniteria’s tire recycling plant in Uddevalla, for which Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) is responsible for project management and coordinating construction, is progressing well in the civil and building works and is now ready for installation of production equipment to begin.

On February 3, key local personnel from Scandinavian Enviro Systems and Antin Infrastructure Partners’ joint venture company Infiniteria, moved to the site outside Uddevalla where the joint venture company is establishing its first full-scale recycling plant. Among the personnel now starting to work from the site are Fredrik Alpner, Plant General Manager, along with about ten other key individuals.

The company also says using recycled rubber in its tires — and collecting used tires for recycling at its stores — is also making a difference in the company's overall carbon footprint.

The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG Group) announced that it has launched studies to perform chemical recycling of end-of-life tires (ELTs) by utilizing the coke ovens at its Kagawa Plant (Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture). The MCG Group aims to begin marketing sustainable carbon black made from ELTs by March 2026. Along with the accelerating trend in the tire industry toward using sustainable raw materials, there is a growing need to use recycled carbon black, one of the main raw materials and a rubber reinforcing agent used in tires.
