Reoil Sp. z o.o. continues to strengthen its position in the recovered Carbon Black (rCB) and tyre pyrolysis industry through quality assurance and technological advancements, supported by EU funding.

The construction of the end-of-life tire recycling plant in Sweden will be based on Enviro’s unique pyrolysis technology with the ability to extract raw materials from multi-component products. This joint venture announces the final investment decision for the construction of its first used tire recycling plant. Antin and Enviro entered into the joint venture in March of 2023 to build a series of plants in chosen European geographies.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) has published its 2021 annual financial statements and, for the first time, consolidated financial statements for 2021. In the past financial year 2021, the Group achieved a total output of EUR 3.7 million, an increase of 106% compared to the previous year (2020: EUR 1.8 million). In the reporting period, the total output mainly consists of own work capitalised in the amount of EUR 2.8 million and sales, which increased to EUR 0.9 million.

On December 10, 2021, New Energy was the only commercially active company worldwide that was certified by ISCC PLUS as a "Point of Origin" and greenhouse gas savings for chemical recycling of both tire and plastics.

On December 4th, 2023, Reoil Sp. z o.o. of Poland was awarded REACH Registration EC: 948-949-8 for pyrolysis oil from waste rubber and tires. This makes Reoil the first manufacturer in the world with a permit to produce/import the substance or produce or import an article containing it in quantities exceeding 1,000 MT per year in Europe. Reoil is a tire pyrolysis technology developer and operator in Poland. Reoil has been producing tire derived oils and carbon products at their Bukowna site since 2016. Their successful operation allowed them to achieve positive results over the last three years, achieving a turn-over of EUR 11 million from sales of product in 2023 with an EBITDA margin of EUR 6 million.

Oil makes up approximately 35-45% of pyrolysis output depending on process conditions. Recovered fuel oil consists of three fractions with the middle fraction prevailing and it cannot be considered a substitute for traditional fuels before purification and sometimes additional treatment. Width of application of tire-derived pyrolysis oil depends on regulations in particular countries where a project is carried out. In countries with strict environmental protection regulations pyrolysis oil may require additional treatment and refinement, which in turn will increase production costs and lower profit margins.

The recognition highlights Orion’s achievement as a "Key Innovator" for being the first company to produce circular carbon black from 100% pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tires. The market-ready material serves as an alternative to carbon black made from fossil oil.

This March, BASF revealed its plans to use pyrolysis oil from recycled tires to manufacture outdoor pants. The new product line of the outdoor apparel company VAUDE which will be available in stores from March 2022, does not only stands out due to its timeless design, robust material and simple reparability – the pants are also sustainable, as chemically recycled endof-life tires are used as a raw material. With this innovation, BASF and VAUDE seek to make a contribution towards reducing waste and preserving valuable resources.
