In early January 2020, innovative Swiss tyre recycling company Tyre Recycling Solutions shared its success of implementing the ECR technology in the country. In its recent statement, TRS said: “After two years of technology validation led by the Swiss Institute for Material Science and Technology (EMPA) and involving two asphalt contractors and one world-leading supplier of mixing plant, TRS has started implementing the ECR technology in Switzerland. Five road sections were paved in 2020. Watch for more road paving in 2021, and not just in Switzerland!”

TRS Tyres Recycling Sud, in collaboration with Rub-Lab and Ecopneus, has unveiled a new asphalt stretch at its Balvano plant, constructed using rubber powder derived from end-of-life tires (ELT). The Rubberap project, a joint initiative, showcases an innovative and sustainable use of resources, promising enhanced safety, environmental sustainability, and optimal mechanical performance. The specially engineered powder, derived from recycled rubber, improves compatibility with bitumen, requiring no adaptation of asphalt plants or specific machinery for paving. This technology has been successfully tested in municipal road sections, emphasizing its eco-performance, superior resistance to traffic stresses, and long-lasting acoustic and mechanical benefits.

Significant technological synergies between South Korean LDC proprietary Green carbon black technology and Swiss TRS unique water-jet milling technology draw both players to sign a MoU for a first jointly owned TyreXol™ rubber powder processing plant in South Korea, with further ambitions to expand the relationship to the Asian continent.

The war in Ukraine and upcoming Ecodesign Regulation as part of reforms under the EU Green Deal resulted in sharp rise in interest in recovered materials. Synthos announces that its collaboration with Swiss company Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS) is progressing according to plan as it obtained a minority stake in the successful scale-up company following the acquisition of Trinseo's synthetic rubber business at the end of 2021. Trederra announced an exclusive supply agreement with Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS) of Switzerland supporting the production of Trederra™ footwear outsoles made from end-of-life tires. TRS will supply Trederra with CT-50 rubber powder which is manufactured using the patented TRS Water Pulse® technology, a proprietary and highly specialized water-jet system that pulverizes tire tread into fine powder. According to Renecal, Spanish company COLLOSA has carried out the reinforcement of the LE-6517 road of the Diputación de León, in the municipality of Cabreros del Río, with a mixture type SMA 11, with a 6% endowment of bitumen and 1% Tyrexol MMA 30, with a spectacular result and great facility for manufacturing and implementation.
