Wastefront AS recently announced the appointment of new CEO, Vianney Valès – a former top executive in Oil & Gas in companies such as Shell and Galp Energia. Valès, who was first introduced to Wastefront by its liquid offtaker Vitol in 2019, was initially engaged with the Norwegian company in his former position as CEO of Devaltec LLC, a project developer and solutions provider in new and sustainable energies.

According to TradeArabia News Service, Oman's Sur will get a $215.87 million rubber powder facility. In order to establish a rubber processing plant with an investment value of RO83 million ($215.87 million) for phase one of the project, Sur Industrial City, a subsidiary of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), has signed an investment contract with Al Fairuz Projects and Investments.

On the 6th of February, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) announced opening a committee which will develop standards for the recovered carbon black (rCB). The goal of the ASTM’s new committee D36 will be to establish and update standards in end-of-life tire (ELT) and scrap rubber decomposition, standards in material characteristics and sustainability. ASTM declared that the committee will be formed and governed by the members of its existing committee on carbon black (D24) who engaged in working with a vast portfolio of standards on recycled carbon black goods.

Chief Operating Officer of Green Distillation Technologies Trevor Bayley slammed resolution of Queensland authorities to not provide the company with Resource Recovery Grant that is intended to assist development of Toowoomba tire recycling facility; according to him, this step may put the project at serious risk. His comments come after the company filed an application for funding of $5 million to cover half of all costs needed to construct the facility.

Tire pyrolysis company from the Netherlands Black Bear Carbon has stated this month that it is ready to construct one more recovered carbon black plant at the Port of Rotterdam. However, Black Bear did not reveal the annual capacity of its anticipated facility. To recover carbon black, end-of-life tires will undergo thermal treatment at the facility as granulate will be decomposed from the waste materials. They will be further applied in production of carbon black and pyrolysis oil.

In response to an inquiry from Tyre and Rubber Recycling, DeFRA provided an update on their plans for waste tyre management. The department confirmed that the Labour government intends to reform the waste exemptions system, including the removal of the T8 exemption. This initiative aligns with the new Secretary of State's goal of developing a roadmap toward a zero-waste economy, which aims to enhance resource efficiency and cut down on emissions and waste.

South Carolina state agencies started last week the waste management campaign fighting unsanctioned tire dumping in the Palmetto State. The move was made at the Scrap Tire Recycling Conference in Greenville. The authoritative bodies South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, the Department of Natural Resources and waste managing organization PalmettoPride are behind the scrap tire project named "See It, Report It". The initiative appeals to locals and encourages them to anonymously notify special services via the Litter Buster Hotline whenever they spot illegal tire dumps. Once the call is received, the state agencies can take action aimed at waste tire reduction.
