Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) is planning to build a Pyrum pyrolysis plant in the Czech Republic together with a Czech energy company. A corresponding consulting contract was signed with a subsidiary of the group of companies in order to prepare the approval for the construction of the tire recycling plant and to submit the building application. The new plant with a capacity of 20,000 tons of used tires per year is being built in the Czech border region with Germany and is scheduled to start operations in 2025.

Anyone who works in the tire recycling industry will be familiar with the overarching statistics; that the UK generates around 55 million end-of-life tires (ELTs) annually. Whilst there is some recent information that suggest ELTs are being exported in higher volumes than ever, a ban on placing tires into landfill since 2006, has seen the tire recycling and recovery sector become big business. Now, the UKs first continuous pyrolysis plant for ELTs in Worksop, UK, is set to be a game changer for tire recycling and recovery in the UK and beyond.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has formally submitted an environmental permit application for the recycling plant that the company intends to establish in Uddevalla, Sweden. The application pertained to the establishment of a tire pyrolysis plant on an industrial site in the Lillesjö district of Uddevalla Municipality. The facility would have an initial annual capacity of 30,000 tons of end-of-life tires but the long-term plan for the facility is to process up to 60,000 tons per year. Enviro expects the application process to take up to one year.

In late December 2020, Swedish tire pyrolysis operator and equipment manufacturer Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) reported about updates to its long-term collaboration agreement with Michelin. According to the press release, as part of the strategic partnership negotiations, Enviro and the French global tire manufacturer Michelin have agreed on the principle terms for establishing the first jointly owned recycling plant and a license agreement regulating the terms of use for Enviro’s tire recycling (pyrolysis) technology as well as subsequent compensation. The agreement is subject to the approval of Enviro’s owners at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and the closing will be done after the EGM. Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro) – a renowned tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator – reports about signing a term sheet with TreadCraft Carbon LLC, Buffalo, NY, USA, on the key parts of an agreement to establish a jointly owned plant for the recovery of materials from used tires based on Enviro’s pyrolysis technology. According to the Enviro, the two parties have now agreed on the main conditions for a plant deal. A final agreement is expected to be finalized during the second half of 2019 and would entail the sale of a pyrolysis plant, worth approximately between EUR 25 and 30 million, as well as license revenue and future profits.

Today, scrap tires find numerous uses in many industrial applications and consumer goods. Even though the number of applications grows, there is still a huge surplus of scrap tires available for recycling and many tire stockpiles around the world will remain intact yet for decades. Researchers claim, however, that a huge number of scrap tires can be successfully reused in concrete; interestingly, not only rubber can be used to improve properties of concrete, but the bulk of other materials contained in tires, i.e. recycled steel and synthetic fibers. This article briefly summarizes findings of such researches.

Zeppelin Systems – the company that specializes in the design, construction, and technological upgrading of industrial plants – has secured the engineering contract for the construction of ReOil's second pyrolysis plant in Poland. Set to commence in February 2024, the large-scale facility, covering 27 acres, will have the capacity to recycle 60,000 tonnes of old tires annually.

According to the recent Pyrum's press release, the company has reached a new milestone with reactor 2 (TAD 2) of the new plant at its main site in Dillingen/Saar. In the course of the third commissioning run of TAD 2, the first truck with a delivery volume of around 24,000 litres of pyrolysis oil will be sent to BASF this morning. Following the last test run, the pyrolysis oil was carefully tested to ensure that it met all the required specifications. The sampling of the oil was successful, so delivery to BASF can proceed as planned and there are no more obstacles to future deliveries. Around 60,000 litres of oil have already been produced at the new plant and further deliveries are expected in the near future.
