Lummus Technology, a global provider of process technologies and value-driven energy solutions, and InnoVent Renewables, a leader in sustainable tire recycling, announced the signing of a master cooperation agreement (MCA) to jointly license and deploy InnoVent’s proprietary continuous tire pyrolysis technology worldwide.

South Korean waste treatment and raw material recycling company LD Carbon (CEO Baek, Seong-mun and Hwang, Yong-kyung) announced that it had signed an MOU with Japan’s Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. for the commercialization of sustainable tire raw materials. Sumitomo Rubber Industries is a global tire manufacturer head quartered in Japan, ranked global No.5 in terms of sales (approximately 7.25 billion USD) LD Carbon and Sumitomo Rubber Industries held a business agreement ceremony at the headquarters of Sumitomo Rubber Industries located in Kobe, Japan on November 18 and promised to cooperate in the commercialization of recovered carbon black and pyrolysis oil.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) reports in its press release it won the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award 2022 together with BASF SE, Mercedes-Benz AG and WITTE Automotive GmbH. The jury honoured the four companies with the Best of Award in the Material category for the innovative new door handles of the Mercedes S-Class and the EQE, in the production of which fossil raw materials are replaced by biomethane and pyrolysis oil from recycled end-of-life tyres (ELT). Together, this closes the cycle of recyclable materials and actively promotes the development of innovative recycling processes, Pyrum says.

The Renewable Transport Fuel Association of the UK (RTFA) reports that its thirteen members and Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) of the UK have built a collaboration to promote greater uptake of pyrolysis, an advanced chemical recycling technology. To achieve this, they are funding a consultancy to contribute to the Environment Agency’s review of recovery options for end-of-life tires. Specifically, the group is seeking to demonstrate that pyrolysis is a sufficiently thorough and environmentally-safe process, and that the products should be classified as resources, not waste.

On May 13, Pyrum Innovations – a German end-of-life tire pyrolysis operator – announced it had received ISO 9001 certification for its quality management in the scope of end-of-life tire recycling, production and sales of the resulting products (tire pyrolysis oil and recovered carbon black), research and development of new input materials and products, and plant design and construction. The implementation of and compliance with the quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 has been confirmed by successfully passing, Pyrum said.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) has received the official state approval notice for the operation of production lines 2 and 3 at its main plant in Dillingen, Saarland. Already three months before the start of the official commissioning, all questions from the authorities could be clarified, so that the operating permit was granted. This is a major milestone for the company, as it means that Pyrum's series plants have been proven to be approvable. Consequently, no official restrictions are expected for future plants.

New Energy, a Hungarian company specializing in pyrolysis recycling and technology development, announces its recent certification by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) scheme. This milestone, reached in June 2024, underscores New Energy's dedication to sustainability and innovation.

A Seoul-based startup LD Carbon, which specializes in pyrolysis, waste treatment and raw material recycling, received an equity investment from SK Incheon Petrochem, the petrol business subsidiary of SK innovation. Based on its patented technology, LD Carbon produces Recovered Carbon Black (rCB) by utilizing the residue generated from the pyrolysis of waste tires and supplies it to domestic and foreign tire and rubber product manufacturers. With the latest investment, LD Carbon will establish a new facility producing tire pyrolysis oil, which is produced as end-of-life tires decompose. Korea Development Bank will also help it by issuing new convertible bonds.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) – a pioneer in the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tires (ELT) based on its patented pyrolysis technology – has received the ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system following a comprehensive audit. As a result, the company now meets all the important criteria for being allowed to supply its recovered carbon black (rCB) to the automotive industry. The rCB is used in the tire industry for the production of new tires, as well as in the plastics and electrical industries. Pyrum had previously received ISO 9001 certification for its quality management system and silver status in the EcoVadis sustainability ranking. A year ago, Pyrum also signed a development agreement with premium tire manufacturer Continental to produce high quality recovered carbon black for Continental's tire production. The final hurdle has now been cleared with ISO 14001 certification.
