Smart buoys with recycled tire carbon to be showcased at ETRA Conference 2025
Innovative sea-cleaning technology using activated carbon from recycled tires will be highlighted at the 30th ETRA Conference on Tyre Recycling. The project, led by Prof. Fabrizio Quadrini, has successfully integrated porous tablets made from tire-derived activated carbon into smart buoys designed for oil adsorption and marine monitoring.
The buoy system maximizes the adsorption capabilities of activated carbon while incorporating electronic sensors for real-time communication, measurement, and environmental monitoring. This approach offers a sustainable solution for tackling marine pollution by repurposing waste materials into valuable resources.
Prof. Fabrizio Quadrini, a leading expert in manufacturing processes, recycling technologies, and smart materials, has published over 260 scientific papers and continues to drive research in innovative applications of recycled materials.
The ETRA Conference on Tyre Recycling, taking place from March 25-27, 2025, will showcase this pioneering project alongside key industry discussions on tire recycling, circular economy solutions, and sustainability advancements.
