Fuenlabrada City Council has launched a new asphalt campaign that will improve more than 110,000 square meters of public roads across the municipality, including around 9 linear kilometers of streets distributed across the city’s six districts. The works, scheduled to begin on August 20, 2026, include milling, resurfacing, road marking and curb repainting, with up to 38 interventions planned on streets, avenues and roundabouts. The campaign has a budget of €1.8 million and will include circular economy materials made with recycled products from shredded end-of-life tires. According to the municipality, the use of rubberized asphalt components is expected to improve resistance and elasticity, increase acoustic comfort for road users and extend the useful life of the works.

Campaign covers streets, avenues and roundabouts

The municipal asphalt campaign includes 38 planned interventions on public roads such as Camino del Molino and the streets Galicia, Grecia, Murcia, Luis Sauquillo and Andalucía. The works will cover interdistrict and local roads, as well as deteriorated roundabouts.

The project includes milling and asphalt paving, along with complete repainting of road markings and curbs. The city said the works are intended to improve the road surface across several areas of Fuenlabrada.

Investment reaches €1.8 million

The new campaign has a budget of €1.8 million. It follows earlier road improvement campaigns carried out on streets including Hispanidad, Alemania, Holanda, Fuentevaqueros, Oriente, San Andrés and Húmera.

Fuenlabrada said the most recent set of comprehensive road works will reach €2.6 million in total, excluding other municipal projects carried out through full street renovations or infrastructure reinforcement. These include works on the underpass at calle Móstoles, calle Federica Montseny, Leganés and the radial axis, among others.

Recycled tire rubber to be used in asphalt

As part of the city’s effort to promote the circular economy, the asphalt works will use materials that include recycled products from shredded end-of-life tires. These rubberized asphalt components support tire recycling by creating a local infrastructure outlet for materials recovered from waste tires.

The municipality said the use of recycled tire materials can provide greater resistance and elasticity in asphalt surfaces. It also expects improved acoustic comfort from vehicle rolling noise and longer service life for the treated roads.

Rubberized asphalt supports circular economy goals

The project highlights one of the established applications for recycled tire rubber in road construction. Rubberized asphalt can help municipalities use end-of-life tire materials in public infrastructure while reducing the accumulation of tire waste and supporting rubber recycling markets.

By incorporating recycled tire-derived materials into road resurfacing, Fuenlabrada is linking municipal maintenance works with circular economy objectives. Such applications can help create demand for crumb rubber and other outputs from tire recycling operations.

Traffic restrictions planned in El Naranjo

The asphalt works will cause traffic restrictions in the El Naranjo neighborhood, particularly on calle Galicia and the roundabout connecting calle Galicia with calle Móstoles. Traffic will be cut and parking prohibited on calle Galicia on August 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 31, as well as September 1. The parking ban will remain in place until September 2.

Traffic will also be closed at the roundabout of calle Galicia and calle Móstoles on August 24 and 27. Public bus transport will also be affected during the works.

City advises residents to check transport updates

The municipality advised residents to consult updates from the Local Police on social media and information published by the Municipal Transport Company of Fuenlabrada. These updates will provide details on traffic restrictions and public transport changes related to the 2026 asphalt operation.
