Spanish SIGNUS achieves a 33% reduction in its carbon footprint over three years
SIGNUS Ecovalor first registered its carbon footprint with the Spanish Climate Change Office in 2017, becoming the first verified and certified collective management system to do so, with certification by AENOR.
This project was launched with the aim of seeking ways to improve the environmental management of end-of-life tires. This involves not only finding more applications for the resulting byproducts but also engaging all stakeholders involved in the various management operations to advance their energy efficiency. Therefore, SIGNUS includes the requirement for carbon footprint measurement in the terms and conditions of all its service selection processes for collection and treatment.
Recently, SIGNUS measured and recorded the greenhouse gas emissions related to its activities for the year 2022. Thanks to the planning and implementation of the measures outlined in its Reduction Plan, a 33% reduction in emissions was quantified for the period 2020-2022 compared to the period 2019-2021 for scope 1+2. The data show that SIGNUS's initiatives in this area are proving to be highly effective in achieving the goal of minimizing its carbon footprint, demonstrating its commitment to decarbonization.
The result of the certified measurement has earned SIGNUS two of the three seals awarded by the Spanish Climate Change Office (Calculate, Reduce, and Offset) related to the commitment of Spanish companies to decarbonization by 2050.
