SSI Shredding Systems has supplied equipment to a cement producer in Senegal to shred end-of-life tires, transforming them into tire-derived fuel (TDF) for use in cement kilns. The U.S.-made system, which includes an M120 two-shaft shredder and a trommel screen, provides a cost-effective and space-efficient solution. The trommel screen ensures clean, sheared tire pieces suitable for incineration, helping reduce reliance on coal while lowering costs and carbon emissions.

SSI Shredding Systems’ M120 shredder, paired with a trommel screen, is designed specifically for handling the tough material properties of tires, which contain thick rubber treads and high-tensile steel wire. The system processes up to 6 tons of mixed auto and truck tires per hour, producing clean, high-quality tire chips that can be used as fuel in cement production. The trommel screen captures tire pieces after shredding and recirculates them until they reach the desired size, ensuring efficient processing despite contaminants like dirt and sand.

This solution not only provides a sustainable alternative fuel source for Senegal-based cement producer Les Ciments Du Sahel but also contributes to lowering carbon emissions by reducing coal usage. The compact design of the system allows it to fit into a small area of the facility, taking up only around 300 square feet, making it both space-efficient and highly effective. With SSI’s decades of experience in tire processing, this system offers an economical and reliable option for waste-to-energy operations.
