TRA backs environmental group's efforts to eliminate hazardous tire recycling in India
India-based Social Action and Environment Group (SAPE) that has been campaigning for prohibition of hazardous types of tire recycling in the Asian state received support from the British Tyre Recovery Association (TRA).
The campaigning efforts come at a time when scrap tire export, especially in India, has greatly increased severely damaging processing capacity in the UK and other countries. In addition, the recycling conducted in India is not always subject to the local environmental regulations, according to SAPE’s claims. Thus, TRA has called on international authorities to work on elimination of hazardous tire processing practices. Moreover, TRA thinks that more severe laws and punishment are required to tackle the issue.
The Association also expressed its intent to find stable and environment-friendly solutions that will result in a more efficient waste control. Earlier, Australia’s officials proposed to introduce a scrap tire export ban to eliminate the problem.
