TSA announced QLD Mining Tyres & Conveyor Belts Sustainability Forum on 27 August 2024
Queensland is the second largest generator of mining tires in Australia. That’s an estimated 36,000 tons of end-of-life mining tires not including conveyor belts generated each year, with fewer than 2% of those being recovered for recycling. Considering this massive waste issue and the announcement by Minister Plibersek to include OTR tires and conveyor belts to the Minister’s 2023-24 Priority list, the time for change is now and it can be done if we work together.
QLD Mining Tyres & Conveyor Belts Sustainability Forum run by Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) with support from the Queensland Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation, is by invitation only and will kick-start how we can work together to find real-world solutions for used mining tire and conveyor belts in Australia.
TSA has been running a working group/hub with mining companies in Western Australia, and most recently in New South Wales. We’d be delighted to connect you with appropriate participants if you want to hear about their experience.
The TSA Off the Road Mining Tyres and Conveyor Belt Sustainability Forum will address the challenges and opportunities for OTR tire and conveyor belt management across its lifecycle, and a pathway towards a circular economy. The forum builds on the learnings from Australia’s first comprehensive analysis of OTR tires and conveyors, ‘Tipping the Balance Report‘ published by TSA in 2023.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn and connect with:
- Research focussed on current and emerging technology.
- Recycling and repair solutions for end-of-life OTR tires and conveyor belts.
- The Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation.
- International presenters sharing current de-vulcanisation processes and experiences.
