The Australian federal and Western Australian Labor governments are co-investing AUD $44.1 million in nine recycling projects to enhance waste management across Perth and regional Western Australia.

These projects will divert 143,000 tonnes of waste from landfills annually and create 246 jobs. Facilities will recycle plastics, tires, paper, and cardboard into new products, including high-quality plastic pipes. Key projects include a tire recycling and devulcanization plant to process 12,000 tonnes of off-the-road tires into reusable rubber materials.

Industry partners are contributing an additional AUD $55.7 million. The Recycling Modernisation Fund is driving Australia’s transition to a circular economy, boosting national recycling capacity by over a million tonnes yearly while creating thousands of jobs.

The initiative is part of Australia's broader effort to modernize its recycling infrastructure, with co-investment from both state and industry partners providing a significant AUD $1 billion boost to the sector. The Recycling Modernisation Fund aims to ensure that products at the end of their lifecycle are reused, recycled, or remanufactured rather than sent to landfills. Nationally, the federal government is increasing the country’s recycling capacity, generating more than 3,000 jobs, including over 540 in Western Australia, and driving the creation of more sustainable solutions for waste management.
