The Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) will host its annual conference on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, bringing together the largest gathering of the UK’s tyre recycling sector to address pressing industry challenges. The one-day event, themed ‘AFTER INDIA’, will focus on whether the UK government will follow through on its commitment to end the export of baled whole tyres and move toward a zero-waste circular economy.

Keynote speaker Georgia Elliott-Smith, Director of the campaign group Fighting Dirty, will address the sector’s most urgent policy and regulatory concerns. Labour’s Waste Minister, Mary Creagh MP, has also been invited to speak. In April, Creagh addressed Parliament, promising "a little more action under this government" and a shift away from "outsourcing our waste problems to other countries."

The conference will also feature a presentation by Weibold Consulting, titled “Prospects for Pyrolysis – The Update”. If you would like to connect with Weibold during the event, discuss business opportunities or request information on consulting services, please send your inquiry at sales@weibold.com.

Among the key challenges in the UK on the agenda:

  • T8 exemptions – when will the measure announced in July’s policy paper take effect?
  • Ending export of environmental responsibilities and introducing shred only
  • UK falling behind new waste regulatory standards introduced in continental Europe
  • Will the Environment Agency’s review into waste tyre exports lead to meaningful change?
  • UK has at least 150,000 tonnes of licenced idle domestic tyre recycling capacity
