ASTM Committee D36 recognizes contributors to recovered carbon black standards development
ASTM Committee D36 has presented Awards of Appreciation for Standards Development to several members for their contributions to the recovered carbon black and tire pyrolysis oil industries.
The recognition was announced during a recent ASTM committee week, where industry participants and standards experts gathered to acknowledge work supporting standards development across several technical fields.
Committee D36 presented awards to John Bailey, Ludovic Moulin, Joseph Hallett, Jorge Lacayo and Pieter ter Haar. The awards recognized their work, technical expertise and participation in the standards development process for recovered carbon black, also known as rCB, and related materials such as tire pyrolysis oil.
Standards work supports recovered carbon black development
Recovered carbon black is produced from end-of-life tires through pyrolysis and is increasingly discussed as part of tire recycling, rubber recycling and circular economy strategies.
Standards development can support the rCB market by helping industry participants define material characteristics, improve consistency and create clearer reference points for producers, users and downstream customers.
The recognition of Committee D36 members reflects ongoing work to support technical alignment in the recovered carbon black and tire-derived oil sectors.
ASTM staff manager recognized for committee support
Melissa Marcinowski, who supported ASTM committees as Staff Manager for eight years, also noted the importance of collaboration with industry leaders during her time in the role.
She said the committee week included several celebrations and awards recognizing individuals whose contributions have advanced standards development and strengthened their respective industries.
Marcinowski also announced that she is moving into a new role as Director of Technology Solutions within ASTM’s Member Engagement Division.
Committee C21 presents inaugural award
In addition to the Committee D36 recognitions, ASTM Committee C21 presented Anthony Wayne Thornton with the inaugural Tony Thornton Award of Excellence.
The Society-recognized award was established to honor Thornton’s distinguished service to Committee C21 and his nearly 40 years of contributions to the ceramics industry and standards community.
ASTM said the award recognizes leadership, standards expertise and long-term commitment to committee work.
Recognition highlights role of industry standards
The awards highlight the role of standards development in supporting emerging and established materials industries, including recovered carbon black, tire pyrolysis oil and other sectors linked to recycling and sustainability.
For the recovered carbon black industry, continued technical cooperation may help support broader market acceptance of materials produced from end-of-life tires and tire pyrolysis processes.
