AZuR project group sets new priorities for the future of retreading
On 8 July 2025, the AZuR project group on retreading met at Marangoni’s facility in Henstedt-Ulzburg to advance strategies for strengthening tire retreading in Germany and across Europe. A main focus was preparation for the 2nd AZuR Retreading Summit, scheduled for 16–17 September 2025 at the KRONE TrailerForum. The event will bring together key players in transport and logistics to promote the circular economy through retreaded tires, with a special Logistics Day for fleet operators.
All information about the program, participation options, and registration is available on AZuR's website.
The group welcomed recent confirmation from the European Commission that retreaded tires qualify as compliant under the EU Taxonomy Regulation, enabling their use in public procurement aligned with sustainability goals. AZuR is preparing a factsheet to communicate the environmental and economic benefits of retreads, particularly for municipal fleets. Additionally, the upcoming education initiative “Retreading Goes to School,” supported by BRV and the SGS Foundation, aims to engage students and apprentices on the topic of sustainable mobility.
Strengthening its industry base, the AZuR network has welcomed TRM Srl, an Italian manufacturer of high-tech retreading machinery, as a new member. A part of the Marangoni Group, TRM brings over 40 years of experience in hot and cold retreading systems for passenger, truck, OTR, and aircraft tires. The company provides automated, modular solutions designed for high efficiency, traceability, and consistent quality—key to modernizing and scaling retreading operations globally.
The addition of TRM underscores AZuR’s commitment to integrating advanced technology into the tire circular economy. By equipping retreading facilities with efficient machinery and digital tools, AZuR and its partners aim to extend tire life, reduce waste, and keep more tires in the loop—moving closer to the network’s vision of 100% tire circularity.
