Perth-based CTS Tyre Recycling is expanding its leadership team and industry partnerships as it advances plans to reshape end-of-life tyre (EOLT) disposal across Western Australia.

Part of the family-owned Cometti Group, which began as Cometti Tyres in 1984, CTS builds on decades of experience in tyre supply and servicing, particularly for major fleet operators. The group now includes Complete Tyre Solutions, with 13 branches across WA, SA, and the NT, servicing over 800 clients.

Managing Director Leigh Cometti identified a growing opportunity in EOLT recycling, especially for large Off The Road (OTR) tyres widely used in mining and agriculture. An estimated 90% of WA’s OTR tyres end up in landfill, often buried in mining pits—wasting valuable materials that could be repurposed.

CTS has invested over $40 million in a state-of-the-art facility at Neerabup, where it processes tyres into rubber crumb for use in roads, soft-fall playgrounds, athletic tracks, and equine surfaces. The plant also remanufactures tyres into high-value products like acoustic underlay, gym matting, and farm applications.

To support growth, CTS has appointed Darren Rodwell as Chief Operating Officer and Joseph Jeevaraj as Chief Financial Officer. Both bring senior management experience from the Australian crane services industry.

CTS has joined key industry bodies including ATRA, ACOR, and WRIWA, which advocates for stronger waste policy and has called for a ban on landfill disposal of mining tyres. Cometti sees rising pressure on the sector to meet ESG targets and repurpose tyre materials like rubber and steel.

“Thousands of tyres have already been buried, but with support from government and shareholders, future OTR tyres can be returned for recycling,” says Cometti. “This reduces landfill and demand for virgin materials—key to building a circular economy for one of the world’s most used circular products.”
