German waste management company GOA demonstrates value of retreaded tires in municipal fleets
AZuR’s (Allianz Zukunft Reifen) new partner, the Gesellschaft im Ostalbkreis für Abfallbewirtschaftung mbH (GOA), a municipal waste management company in Germany, has been relying on retreaded tires for many years. Today, around 120 of its vehicles run entirely on retreaded tires — a strong example of how circular economy principles can be effectively integrated into everyday municipal operations.
GOA Managing Director Siegfried Gstöttner emphasized that retreaded tires are not viewed as an alternative but as a natural standard for the company. He noted that, as a municipal waste management provider, GOA considers itself a role model and consistently seeks to avoid waste wherever possible.
The environmental and economic benefits are clear: retreading commercial vehicle tires can save up to 63% CO₂, reduce raw material and energy consumption, and cut costs. GOA estimates savings of around €90 per tire, since many casings can be reused once or even twice.
Working in cooperation with AZuR partner RIGDON, worn tires are inspected, retreaded, and put back into service—including on steering axles. Casings unsuitable for retreading are directed to material recycling. Retreaded tires also meet strict EU safety and quality standards (ECE R109/108), making them equivalent to new tires and a key factor for both municipal climate protection and the tire circular economy.
