The European Union has made the transition to more sustainable mobility, one of its top priorities. Adopted in April 2024, the Euro 7 regulation represents a major step forward, by introducing, for the first time, particle emission thresholds for tire wear — a measure Michelin fully supports.

Tyre-to-tyre recycling is still more of an exception than the rule. Yet new technologies are proving it can be done. One of the most ambitious initiatives in this space is BlackCycle, an EU-funded project that set out to build a fully circular value chain — from end-of-life tyre collection to the production of new tyres. In an interview with Waste Management World, Jean-Michel Douarre, BlackCycle Consortium Director and research program leader on sustainable raw materials at Michelin, shared how the project came to life, what it has achieved, and why it matters for the future of sustainable mobility.

Murfitts Industries and tyre giant Michelin have announced a project to process old tyres, recovering the energy and materials within them. As part of the project, Murfitts, the UK’s largest tyre recycling company, has submitted plans to set up a tyre reprocessing site at Michelin’s Stoke-on-Trent premises. The “cutting-edge” process developed by Murfitts will reportedly generate energy which will be used to power Michelin’s production on site, thereby lowering CO2 emissions from the factory by 1,500 tonnes per year. In addition to the energy recovered, the process will also produce recovered carbon black (rCB) and tyre pyrolysis oil (TPO).

The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) announced its new Board of Directors following its Annual General Meeting of members held on June 4, 2025. At that meeting, the members elected Phillip Diogenes of Bridgestone Canada Inc. as a new director. The Officers of TRAC include Chris Figel of AirBoss of America Corp. as Chair of the Board; Lawrence Kumar of Yokohama Tire (Canada) as Vice Chair; and Paul Christou of Goodyear Canada Inc. as Treasurer.
