SIGNUS has marked its 20th anniversary by presenting a new corporate identity, a strategic plan and a revised organizational model designed to guide the next stage of end-of-life tire management in Spain. At an event in Madrid on October 16, 2026, the organization formally introduced SIGNUS Asociación, created to comply with Spain’s new regulatory framework and increase participation by affiliated tire producers in decision-making and governance. The new structure follows the requirements of Royal Decree 712/2025 and forms part of a broader shift toward greater transparency, participation, efficiency and circular economy development. SIGNUS also used the anniversary to recognize the companies, public administrations, research institutions, waste managers, workshops and other stakeholders that have supported tire collection and recycling during its first two decades, while outlining plans to strengthen collaboration, innovation and higher-value recovery of materials from end-of-life tires.

SIGNUS Asociación begins new organizational stage

The creation of SIGNUS Asociación is one of the central elements of the organization’s new structure. The association is intended to comply with the updated legal framework governing collective Extended Producer Responsibility systems and to give affiliated producers a greater role in strategic decisions.

The revised model is designed so that participating producers can take part more directly in governance, while producer members can also be represented within the organization’s governing bodies.

New board includes founding tire manufacturers and other producers

An extraordinary electoral General Assembly held on the morning of the anniversary event appointed the new Board of Directors of SIGNUS Asociación.

Founding companies Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Michelin and Pirelli are represented on the board alongside representatives of other producer members participating in the collective tire management system.

Twenty years of tire recycling activity recognized

SIGNUS President Daniel Camacho said the anniversary provides an opportunity both to review two decades of development and to prepare for the organization’s next phase. He highlighted the collective contribution of companies, public authorities and other organizations involved in building Spain’s end-of-life tire recycling system.

SIGNUS says its work has contributed not only to managing tires after their useful life but also to establishing and developing a tire recycling industry capable of turning waste tires into useful secondary materials for multiple applications.

Madrid authorities support transition to new model

Cristina Aparicio Maeztu, Director General for Energy Transition and Circular Economy of the Community of Madrid, participated in the anniversary event and discussed the role of public administrations in waste management and circular economy development.

The Community of Madrid is the competent environmental authority for authorization and supervision of Extended Producer Responsibility systems headquartered in the region and has authorized SIGNUS Asociación to operate under its new legal structure.

SIGNUS recognizes contributors across tire value chain

The anniversary event also recognized organizations and individuals that have contributed to SIGNUS activities over the past two decades. Among those acknowledged were the municipalities of Madrid and Fuenlabrada, researchers associated with the University of Granada, Polytechnic University of Madrid and CEDEX, environmental journalist Arturo Larena and representatives of tire waste management companies.

The more than 25,000 workshops and other generation points from which SIGNUS organizes end-of-life tire collection were also recognized for their role in the system.

Strategic plan focuses on collaboration, knowledge and innovation

SIGNUS said its new phase follows an internal strategic review carried out over recent months. The resulting strategic plan is intended to strengthen SIGNUS as a platform for collaboration, knowledge development and innovation around end-of-life tire management.

The organization plans to work more closely with producers and other companies involved in tire collection, treatment and valorization while continuing to develop higher-value applications for recovered materials.

New identity reflects change in organization’s role

A new visual identity was presented as one of the central elements of the anniversary. SIGNUS said the updated image is intended to represent the evolution of the organization and its future direction.

The new identity was introduced together with a manifesto video centered on the idea of transformation and creating new opportunities from products that have completed their first useful life.

New regulatory framework increases producer participation

The organizational changes follow implementation of Royal Decree 712/2025, which introduced new requirements for the governance and operation of collective producer responsibility systems for end-of-life tires in Spain.

SIGNUS had already announced earlier in 2026 that its new model would increase producer participation, introduce more democratic governance mechanisms and strengthen transparency and accountability across the system.

Organization continues focus on recycled tire material markets

SIGNUS says its future strategy will continue to emphasize development of markets for materials recovered from end-of-life tires. These include recycled rubber for construction, automotive, infrastructure and other applications where secondary materials can remain in productive use for longer periods.

The organization is also pursuing a Strategic Valorization Plan intended to increase the value of recovered materials and identify new commercial applications for tire-derived products.

Twenty-year milestone opens new phase for Spanish tire recycling

With the creation of SIGNUS Asociación, its new governance structure, strategic plan and updated identity, SIGNUS is presenting its 20th anniversary as the end of one institutional phase and the beginning of another.

The organization says the objective remains to ensure that end-of-life tires are increasingly treated as sources of valuable secondary raw materials rather than waste, while strengthening producer participation, recycling markets and circular economy development across Spain.
