According to ABC News, an Albury business, Carbon MF Pty Ltd, and its director, Mark Fair, were fined nearly $600,000 by the Land and Environment Court for unlawfully accumulating 28,000 end-of-life tyres near Albury Airport. Court records revealed that Carbon MF accepted payment to receive around 22,000 4WD tyres, 45,000 car tyres, and 12,000 truck tyres but failed to comply with an Environment Protection Authority (EPA) clean-up notice. Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) has released its tyre recovery data for 2022-2023, and things don’t look good. Alarmingly, Australia’s recovery of used car, bus and truck (automotive) tyres is going backwards, having dropped to under 80%, a sharp downward trend since the 2019-2020 peak of 90%.

According to the latest press release by Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA), every year, a staggering 500,000 tons of tires in Australia reach the end of their road, and shockingly, only a mere 15% of these materials are currently being repurposed in Australia.
