2020 has become a great year in forming partnerships between tire and plastic pyrolysis companies with world’s leading chemical producers, and pyrolysis operators with tire manufacturers. In the beginning of 2021, good news comes again, this time – from the plastics pyrolysis domain, which nevertheless goes hand in hand with end-of-life tire pyrolysis. Agilyx – a chemical recycling company – and ExxonMobil have created a joint venture that will sort and recover waste plastic, the chemical recycling company recently revealed.

In late December 2020, Swedish tire pyrolysis operator and equipment manufacturer Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) reported about updates to its long-term collaboration agreement with Michelin. According to the press release, as part of the strategic partnership negotiations, Enviro and the French global tire manufacturer Michelin have agreed on the principle terms for establishing the first jointly owned recycling plant and a license agreement regulating the terms of use for Enviro’s tire recycling (pyrolysis) technology as well as subsequent compensation. The agreement is subject to the approval of Enviro’s owners at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and the closing will be done after the EGM. Carlton Forest Group – a tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator from the UK – reports that its pyrolysis and recycling engineer, that has dedicated his entire career to managing waste streams around the world, has won a UK Lifetime Achievement Award. Wastefront AS – a Norewegian tire pyrolysis company – announced an exclusive long-term project delivery partnership with Devaltec LLC, a project developer and solutions provider in new and sustainable energies from the United States. Devaltec, which was first introduced to Wastefront by Vitol in 2019, will now act as the primary strategic partner to Wastefront and will co-lead the development of all upcoming projects for the next 5 years. Devaltec is contracted to successfully deliver production from multiple plants of minimum 1000 MTD, commencing with Wastefront’s first waste tire recycling plant in Sunderland, due for completion in 2023.

According to several reports by Bloomberg Law and WTHI-TV Pyrolyx USA Indiana LLC – a tire pyrolysis plant focused on recovered carbon black production – filed for Chapter 7 protection “a liquidation bankruptcy” in Delaware this Autumn. The sources say this information is confirmed by court papers. According to Bloomberg Law, Pyrolyx USA Indiana LLC reported in April that it couldn’t make loan payments backing municipal bonds sold in 2017 after it shut its plant in Terre Haute because of the coronavirus outbreak.

ShipInsight – an online magazine focused on ship operation, ship management and marine journalism – reports that an energy and commodity trader Vitol and Wastefront, the Norwegian waste tire pyrolysis company, have announced a 10-year offtake agreement for the production of liquid hydrocarbons (pyrolytic fuel oil) and certain non-liquid products which will be produced at Wastefront’s first waste tire pyrolysis plant in Sunderland, UK, on its completion in 2023.
