Marangoni – a worldwide developer and distributor of materials and technologies for the cold retreading of truck and bus tires – is set to showcase a wide range of sustainable tire solutions for commercial vehicles in the quarry at the upcoming Steinexpo (Homberg, Germany, August 23 – 26). The company has partnered with the tire brand Westlake, manufactured by China's Zhongce Rubber Group, in a collaborative sales agreement. Titan International, Inc. and United Steelworkers (USW) called for restrictions on downstream products made from Russian petroleum inputs, citing in particular concerns over imports of off-the-road (OTR) tires from India. Paul Reitz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Titan International, stated, "Imports of Indian OTR tires increased by close to 38% in 2022 compared to 2021. India was not among the nations to ban imports of Russian oil products, including the production of the by-product, carbon black, which is a key ingredient the production of OTR tries. It is vital to our industry that we intensify our efforts to bring light to and close loopholes in the issued sanctions to Russia."

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) – the end-of-life tire management authority designing programs and regulations for tire recycling and material recovery in the country – is inviting innovators to help improve the recovery of large off-the-road (OTR) tires once they reach end of life. Around 120,000 tons of end-of-life OTR tires are sent to landfill every year. These tires are used in some of Australia’s most important industries: mining, agriculture, construction, manufacturing and aviation. At end of life, less than 15% of these tires are recovered and then recycled for use as a new resource, the remainder are stockpiled, buried onsite or sent to landfill.

According Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) – Australian end-of-life tyre recycling and management authority – the country's Northern Territory recovers only 12% of its used tyres, compared to a national recovery rate of 72%. That’s 4,300 tonnes of used tyres buried in pit, landfilled, stockpiled or illegally dumped each year.   Tyre Stewardship Australia CEO Lina Goodman says, “the Northern Territory’s unique features make it an ideal testing hub, however it is also a challenging place to recycle and recover the valuable resources from its used tyres.”
