Bridgestone and Michelin publish white paper to share the results of their work on the increased use of recovered carbon black in the tire industry. Following the joint call to action around recovered carbon black at the 2021 Smithers rCB conference, Bridgestone Corporation and Michelin Group have published a joint technical white paper to share the results of their work with stakeholders in the rCB community to develop a proposed global standard to increase the utilization of recovered carbon black material in tires. Zeppelin Systems – the company that specializes in the design, construction, and technological upgrading of industrial plants – has secured the engineering contract for the construction of ReOil's second pyrolysis plant in Poland. Set to commence in February 2024, the large-scale facility, covering 27 acres, will have the capacity to recycle 60,000 tonnes of old tires annually.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has developed a new type of recovered carbon black with improved dispersion properties. The new type of carbon black has been developed to meet demand from the tire and rubber industry. The new type of carbon black has been produced for some time at Enviro’s plant in Åsensbruk, Sweden, and has acquired properties enhancing its interaction with other chemicals and ingredients when manufacturing tires and rubber parts, for example.

British Plastics Federation recently released an article about Waverly Carbon's sustainable recovered carbon black (rCB) and how it could be used in manufacturing process. The article also covers Waverly Carbon's collaboration with its official UK distributors Lawrence Industries Ltd. The widespread use of virgin carbon black, derived from finite fossil fuel resources, poses environmental challenges due to its production process, high energy consumption, and associated emissions.

According to the Roads & Infrastructure Australia magazine, a collaborative project led by Alex Fraser, ecologiQ, and Entyr has resulted in an innovative alternative for asphalt production in Victorian roads. This initiative aims to address the significant issue of end-of-life tires in Australia, with approximately 70 percent of these tires now being recycled. Alex Fraser, a key player in this venture, developed TyrePave rCB (Recovered Carbon Black), a sustainable alternative to fine ground limestone in asphalt production.

Continental continues to step up its activities to ensure a circular economy. Recently, the tire manufacturer added recovered carbon black (rCB) to its newly produced Super Elastic solid tires at its tire plant in Korbach, Germany, thus reducing the use of fossil raw materials and CO2 emissions. Solid tires such as Continental’s SC20+ already contain around 60 percent renewable and recycled materials thanks to their high natural rubber content. By 2050 at the latest, Continental aims to use 100 percent sustainable materials in its tire products.

The oil and carbon black that Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) recovers from end-of-life vehicle tires in its plant in Åsensbruk have received new certification in accordance with the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) scheme. It is the second time that the recovered carbon black and oil from the facility in Åsensbruk has received renewed certification in accordance with ISCC, International Sustainability & Carbon Certification.
