Contec S.A. – a company that specializes in producing sustainable raw materials by upcycling end-of-life tires – has successfully secured a total of EUR 15 million in funding this year. The largest Polish manufacturer of steel roofing and facades – Pruszyński – has contributed an additional EUR 5 million to the funds already provided by VINCI and the Warsaw Equity Group. These two entities had initially invested EUR 10 million in Contec back in March 2023. The investment will be used to triple the capacity of Contec’s current facility in Szczecin, Poland, and to position the company for the construction of several new commercial plants across Europe. This will support Contec's mission to accelerate the transformation of the manufacturing industry toward carbon neutrality.

To handle waste such as scrap tires, sometimes one may want to seek an alternative to recycling – tire pyrolysis. This process involves decomposing of car tires by incinerating them at a high temperature at the same time removing oxygen. Via this method, it is possible to obtain gas, oil and alternative charcoal known as biochar or recovered carbon black (rCB) – the recycled materials will be applied to produce new goods and generate energy.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) – a pioneer in the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tires based on its pyrolysis technology – has started test operation of its new pelletiser at its plant site in Dillingen. The pelletiser enables the recovered carbon black (rCB) obtained by means of the pyrolysis process to be bonded into pellets, which increases the transportability as well as facilitates the further processing of the raw material.

The European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA) is hosting the three day event that will take place from Wednesday through to Friday 23 - 25 March 2022 at the NH Collection Hotel, Grand Sablon, Brussels. Carlton Forest Renewables announced a partnership with Australian Triskel. In a venture created to support the Australian market with its ban on the export of end-of-life tires (ELTs), Triskel will act as an agent for Carlton Forest Renewables in the ANZ and Pacific Islands region, showcasing the technology that is on offer and the positive impact it has on dealing with ELTs. “We are very happy to have secured the deal with the Carlton Forest team and to be working with them as we seek new ways of dealing with ELTs in Australia,” said Virginie Senbel-Lynch, Managing Director of Triskel. “The vision and entrepreneurship displayed by CEO Mark Pepper and his team is incredibly impressive and represents a real game-changer in the way ELTs are recovered and processed across the globe.”

Reoil – a tire pyrolysis operator from Polish – has announced its exclusive partnership with HARKE Chemicals GmbH, who will distribute the company's "ReBlack" recovered carbon black (rCB) and tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) in Europe and the United Kingdom. According to Reoil, this collaboration focuses on sustainability and the circular economy. Reoil's products, which are obtained from the recovery of end-of-life-tires (ELT), offer environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional raw materials and help reduce waste and CO2 emissions.

The move comes after the Austrian firm earlier presented its innovative way of tire recycling that seeks to recycle rubber from tires into solid carbon, also known as recovered carbon black. Alternatively, the method allows getting a hydrocarbon mixture like pyrolysis oil and gas. Apart from commercial application of recycled products, the process is of value as it is totally in line with circular economy’s principles and it does not require external energy sources.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum), a pioneer in the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tires (ELT) based on its patented pyrolysis technology, has commissioned the first automated, semi-industrial recycling plant for carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP) after almost four years of development. This is the first time CFRP has been holistically recycled worldwide. The plant is located at the main factory in Dillingen/Saar and will serve as the cornerstone for the construction of an industrial plant. This opens up another promising market for Pyrum alongside the recycling of used tires. Fiber-reinforced composites, which include CFRP, are used in a wide variety of areas, including the transport industry in the production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles, aviation and public transport.
